UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS ENGINEER, Information Services and Technology (IS&T), to provide design, configuration, and support for MIT's SIP-based communications services which support over 25,000 users. These include traditional telephone service and a rich set of video, instant messaging, and other collaboration tools. Will ensure day-to-day operational stability, handle equipment and server installation and upgrades, and resolve complex problems; assume primary responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and support of Cisco Unified Communications systems; promote the use of emerging collaboration and communication technologies; serve as technical lead on projects; provide technical guidance to other IT staff; and perform other duties as needed.
REQUIREMENTS: at least five years of network engineering and services experience in large, complex environments; ability to configure systems and integrate them with other communications systems; experience working with vendors on system installations and software and hardware upgrades; ability to diagnose complex problems and implement fixes in a multivendor environment; familiarity with basic networking technologies including IP routing, VLANs, DHCP and HTTP; substantial experience with Cisco Unified Communications systems including CUCM, Unity Connection, UCCX, CUPS, CUBE, TelePresence, and voice gateways; strong understanding of VoIP technologies including Cisco SCCP and IETF SIP and related protocols; extensive hands-on experience with SIP trunking and debugging SIP messaging; ability to work and communicate effectively with customers, assessing their needs, and analyzing and resolving their problems; ability to work both independently and as a part of a team; and ability to maintain confidentiality using discretion and judgment. Experience with Polycom voice equipment, WebEx, Tandberg videoconferencing systems, Broadsoft Synergy, or Acme Packet systems a plus; as is knowledge of the IETF XMPP protocol. MIT-00009025-P
