5 Reasons Why Travel Accident Insurance Is A Necessity | car ...

When it comes to travel accident insurance, it is highly essential for those travelling inside and outside their country. Since any kind of accidents and mishaps may occur during travelling, travellers should safeguard their economic risks with the aid of travel accident insurance. Although accidents are not usually sought by the insured, they can nevertheless get reimbursed for a portion or whole of the property that they lose while travelling. The following paragraphs outline 5 reasons which make travel accident insurance a necessity.

1.To cover majority health risks during travel, you can avail a travel medical insurance. The coverage includes ?Evacuation? and ?Travel Medical? that provides safety insurance during travelling. This insurance covers any sort of illness, accident or emergency over short term, such as 5 days or long term such as a year.

2.Travel insurance also covers accidental death and dismemberment cases. No matter where you are in the world, you will be provided 24-hour coverage for such cases. The coverage begins when you leave your home or office until you reach your travelling destination. However, eligibility is a must.

3.If you avail an insurance coverage for business travel, your company acts as the guarantor for your insurance.

4.Travel insurance only covers the conditions specified under the policy and nothing beyond. All losses, policies, and conditions must be specified in the policy and should have the agreement of the insurer and the insured. Any exceptions cannot be covered by the insurance as per the insurance policy. Many times, activities, which may be harmful or dangerous, are not covered by insurance firms because that increases their chances of incurring a loss. In addition, deadly incidents such as diseases, non-accidental bacterial infections, and self-destruction or suicide attempts are not covered by the travel accident insurance. This prevents insurers to obtain insurance for self-harming activities.

5.Majority Travel Accident Insurance Plans set payments in accordance to the amount agreed upon to the benefactor that you select. In cases such as accidental death or other unpredictable incidents, the benefactor receives the payment on your behalf. You can also change your benefactor with prior notification after all the insurance procedures have been completed. For cases of accidental death, your benefactor will generally be paid a lump sum amount of cash. If your benefactor wishes, he or she can deposit the entire sum or a portion of it to any of your established personal account. Money can be withdrawn against checks when required.

Travel insurance has numerous benefits to you as a traveller, especially if you do not know the kind of travel you are headed for. Any unforeseen hazards or incidents will be covered and compensated by the insurance company providing they satisfy the agreed terms. So, if you are travelling to a foreign region, make sure you have travel insurance so that your travelling proves to be beneficial. Although we don?t look forward to hazards or accidents, insurance gives us a coverage that, even though, may not restore the actual value of the loss incurred, especially in accidental deaths or dismemberment, but can minimize the loss by allowing a decent compensation.

Soldier's story reveals a life built on family and service, but marred by disappointment

LAKE TAPPS, Wash. - On a winding road of wood-frame homes tucked amid towering pines, Robert Bales was the father who joined his two young children for playtime in the yard, a career soldier who greeted neighbours warmly but was guarded when talking about the years he spent away at war.

"When I heard him talk, he said ... 'Yeah, that's my job. That's what I do'," said Kassie Holland, a next-door neighbour to the soldier who is now suspected of killing 16 Afghan civilians. "He never expressed a lot of emotion toward it."

Speaking to his fellow soldiers, though, Bales could exult in the role. Plunged into battle in Iraq, he told an interviewer for a base newspaper in 2009 that he and his comrades proved "the real difference between being an American as opposed to being a bad guy."

As reporters swarmed Bales' neighbourhood late Friday, Holland and other neighbours shook their heads, trying but failing to reconcile the man they thought they knew with the allegations against him. Military officials say that at about 3 a.m. last Sunday, the 38-year-old staff sergeant crept away from the Army base where he was stationed in southern Afghanistan, entered two slumbering villages and unleashed a massacre, shooting his victims and setting many of the bodies on fire. Eleven of those killed belonged to one family. Nine were children.

"I can't believe it was him," said Holland, recalling a kind-hearted neighbour. "There were no signs. It's really sad. I don't want to believe that he did it."

Until Friday, military officials had kept Bales' identity secret and what little was known about him remained sketchy. But with the release of his name, a still-incomplete, but sharply conflicting portrait of the man comes into focus. Part of it reveals the father and husband neighbours recall, and a soldier quietly proud of his 11-year record of service, including three tours in Iraq.

But it also shows Bales had previous brushes with trouble. In 2002, records show, he was arrested at a Tacoma, Wash., hotel for assault on a girlfriend. Bales pleaded not guilty and was required to undergo 20 hours of anger management counselling, after which the case was dismissed. A separate hit-and-run charge was dismissed in a nearby town's municipal court three years ago, according to records.

Bales has not yet been charged in the killings in Afghanistan. He was flown Friday from Kuwait to the military's only maximum-security prison, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. When the Air Force cargo jet with the soldier aboard arrived at Kansas City International Airport, about an hour from the military prison, security was very tight, with the terminal completely blocked off. It marked the tragic end of Bales' fourth tour of duty in a war zone, one his lawyer said he had hoped to avoid.

"He wasn't thrilled about going on another deployment," said the attorney, John Henry Browne of Seattle. "He was told he wasn't going back, and then he was told he was going."

A neighbour, Paul Wohlberg, recalled that when he last saw Bales in November the two men talked briefly about the soldier's imminent departure for Afghanistan.

"I just told him to be safe. He said, 'I will. See you when I get back," said Wohlberg, who recalled attending barbeques at the Bales' homes.

Wohlberg described Bales as a man who clearly loved his country.

"I'm sure he still does," he said.

Bales told neighbours little about his brigade's three tours of duty to Iraq. But in a 2009 article published in Fort Lewis' Northwest Guardian, Bales told the interviewer about finding many dead and wounded when his unit was sent to recover a downed Apache helicopter in Iraq.

"I've never been more proud to be a part of this unit than that day, for the simple fact that we discriminated between the bad guys and the noncombatants and then afterward we ended up helping the people that three or four hours before were trying to kill us, " Bales said.

After returning from his second deployment to Iraq, Bales was elevated to staff sergeant. In three tours of duty, Browne says his client was injured twice. One of those injuries required the surgical removal of part of one foot. In a vehicle accident, Bales suffered a concussion, the lawyer said.

But by last year, the soldier had reached a disappointing juncture. Bales received more than 20 awards and commendations, including three Army Good Conduct medals. But military files show a largely unremarkable service record, absent the Purple Heart awards that would be expected following a significant injury or wound in combat.

Then he was passed over for a promotion, according to a posting by his wife on her blog, The Bales Family Adventures.

"It is very disappointed after all of the work Bob has done and all the sacrifices he has made for his love of his country, family and friends," Karilyn Bales wrote early last year on the blog, which could not be independently verified. "I am sad and disappointed too, but I am also relieved, we can finally move on to the next phase of our lives."

The best case scenario for that next phase, Karilyn Bales wrote, would be an Army assignment in an adventurous location like Germany, Italy or Hawaii, and barring that, possibly an assignment in Georgia, where her husband could become a sniper instructor.

"We are hoping that if we are proactive and ask to go to a location that the Army will allow us to have some control over where we go next," Karilyn Bailey wrote.

By late last year, Bales was training to be an Army recruiter, Bales' lawyer said. When he learned he would be dispatched to Afghanistan, Bales and his family were very disappointed. Still, the staff sergeant's family saw no indication sign of undue anger, Browne said.

"They were totally shocked," by accounts of the massacre, Browne said. "He's never said anything antagonistic about Muslims. He's in general very mild-mannered."

Bales departed with his unit on Dec. 3 and was assigned about six weeks ago to a base in the Panjwai District, near Kandahar, to work with a village stability force pairing special operations troops with villagers to help provide neighbourhood security.

On Saturday, the day before the shooting spree, Browne said, the soldier saw his friend's leg blown off. Browne said his client's family provided him with that information, which has not been verified.

On Friday, a senior U.S. defence official said Bales was drinking in the hours before the attack on Afghan villagers, violating a U.S. military order banning alcohol in war zones. The official discussed the matter on condition of anonymity because charges have not yet been filed.

Browne said his client's family told him they were not aware of any drinking problem ? not necessarily a contradiction. Pressed on the issue in interviews with news organizations, Browne said he did not know if his client had been drinking the night of the massacre.

Then, in the middle of the night last Sunday, shots rang out in a pair of villages within walking distance of the base. Soon after, a surveillance camera mounted to a blimp captured an image of a soldier the Army identifies as Bales returning in the dark. A traditional Afghan shawl was draped over the gun in his hands. As he reached the gates of the base, the man in uniform lay the weapon down. He raised his arms in surrender.

Browne said he did not know if his client had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, but said it could be an issue at trial if experts believe it's relevant. Experts on PTSD said witnessing the injury of a fellow soldier and the soldier's own previous injuries put him at risk.

"We've known ever since the Vietnam war that the unfortunate phenomenon of abusive violence often closely follows the injury or death of a buddy in combat," said Dr. Roger Pitman, a Harvard Medical School psychiatrist who heads the PTSD Research Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital. "The injury or death of a buddy creates a kind of a blind rage."

On Friday evening, Bales' neighbours said they did not know what to think. They gazed toward the soldier's home, where overflowing boxes were piled on the front porch and a U.S. flag leaned against the siding.

"I just can't believe Bob's the guy who did this," Wohlberg said. "A good guy got put in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Nanopills release drugs directly from the inside of cells

ScienceDaily (Mar. 16, 2012) ? Researchers at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB) have created nanoparticles which could release drugs directly from the cells' interior. The technology, which has been named "nanopills," was licensed to the firm Janus Developments of the Barcelona Scientific Park, which verified its tolerance by administering it in vivo.

UAB researchers developed a new vehicle to release proteins with therapeutic effects. This is known as "bacteria-inclusion bodies," stable insoluble nanoparticles which normally are found in recombinant bacteria. Even though these inclusion bodies traditionally have been an obstacle in the industrial production of soluble enzymes and biodrugs, they were recently recognised as having large amounts of functional proteins with direct values in industrial and biomedical applications.

The research team led by Antoni Vallverde from the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) at UAB worked in collaboration with the Online Biomedical Research Centre for Bioengineering, Biomaterials, and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) to verify the value of these nanoparticles as natural "nanopills" with a strong capacity to penetrate cells and carry out biological activities. The nanopill concept represents a new and promising platform for drug administration and illustrates the yet to be explored power of microbian materials in medicine.

The researchers, in a multidisciplinary study at UAB led by Dr Esther V?zquez, packaged four proteins containing different therapeutic effects into experimental nanopills, the inclusion bodies of the bacteria Escherichia coli. They put the bacteria in contact with cell cultures of mammals under similar conditions to those found in real clinical pathologies, "sick" cells with low viability, and achieved to recover their activity.

Once the technology was licensed to Janus Developments, the tolerance of its administration in vivo were confirmed through experiments conducted by UAB researcher Ester Fern?ndez. The results and detailed description of the "nanopill" were published this week in the journal Advanced Materials.

The multidisciplinary study included researchers from IBB, the UAB Departments of Genetics and Microbiology and of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology, the CIBER-BBN, the CIBER-EHD (Online Biomedical Research Centre for Hepatic and Digestive Diseases), the firm Janus Developments, the Leibniz University of Hannover and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Germany.

The use of inclusion bodies as therapeutic agents was patented by UAB and CIBER-BBN (patent code: WO2010131117A1), and licensed to the biotechnology firm Janus Developments, which currently invests in the development of the product.

HALLWORLDHISTORY.COM ? Making Your Move, Part 1

16 March 2012

Posted by Jody under: Health .

Parts one and two of this series focused on figuring out what you really want to do with your life. We covered how to assess whether you need to make a change and how to evaluate which option is the best one for you. The next challenge is actually making the transition to a new job or career. In this column, we?ll cover the most successful of today?s job search techniques.
I realize many of you are hoping that all you have to do is find some good employment Web sites, apply for a few positions and sit back and wait for the phone to ring. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it?s not quite that easy. Recently a client came to see me, discouraged that after six months of applying for more than 100 jobs on the Web, he had yet to land something. It?s true that the Internet is changing the way companies recruit, but the reality is that applying for jobs listed on the Net or in the paper is successful for only about 15 percent of the job hunters out there. The rest of us have to combine surfing the Web with a more proactive approach and a lot of hard work.

The best way to find a job is to treat it like full-time work. If you are currently employed, this is more difficult, but even those in full-time jobs need to devote at least 10 hours a week to their job search if they want to end up with a good opportunity. You want to avoid taking the first thing that comes along because you are too time-pressed to look for anything else. If you settle for something not quite right, you may end up back in the job market before long.

Those job hunters that fare best are the ones who track down every lead, follow up on every opportunity, and use a variety of job search methods. The reward for all of that effort is to end up with two to three job offers, allowing you to choose the one that?s best for you. Having more than one offer puts you in a strong negotiating position and increases the chance that you?ll get the salary, title and benefits that you are looking for.

Now that you are motivated to go about this the right way, here are the elements that go into a successful job search:

Your resume is still your number one job search tool. If you are changing careers, you need to gear your resume to your new target area by highlighting skills and experiences that are relevant to the position you?re pursuing.
Your resume should be accomplishment-oriented (with results quantified whenever possible), clear and concise. Many people make the mistake of trying to fit everything they?ve ever done into their resume. Before you include an accomplishment, a part-time job you had in college, or your favorite hobby, ask yourself, ?Is this relevant to the position I?m applying for?? If the answer is no, leave it off. Recruiters review hundreds of resumes every week, and they appreciate the streamlined approach. Another important point about resumes: These days, many companies use scanners to transmit information from your resume into their tracking system. To ensure that your resume is captured in the system properly, follow these guidelines:

Avoid using italics, graphics and any unusual fonts. Scanners often can?t read fancy text, so keep it simple to ensure your information is readable.
Make sure to mention key skills that the system might search for.

For example, if you?re applying for a marketing position, and every ad you see lists Internet marketing experience as highly desirable, make sure to highlight this on your resume if it?s something you have.

If you?re going to e-mail your resume, attach it as a text file to ensure that the recipient can open it, no matter what software program they use.
Cover letters give you the opportunity to highlight the parts of your background which are especially relevant to the position you?re applying for. You should include information that shows you have thought about why this company and/or industry would be a good fit for you. Make sure cover letters are well-written, no longer than one page, and proof-read by a second set of eyes.

Communication | Communication Can Save Lives During ...

The importance of communication is most felt during emergency situations because during that time everybody is more eager to know the first hand information about the situation. Emergency communication is involved during natural disasters, fire situation, war time etc. During such situations there is all possibility that the physical communication infrastructure is damaged and also that it is overburdened due response it generate.

Governments all over the world have one or other way to deal with such situations. They have elaborate apparatus of emergency communication to save lives and property. These apparatus may include emergency response teams, temporary communication infrastructure, mass awareness etc. The most common way to respond to such situations in developing countries is to call army, they with their trained man and better practise can able to perform better in comparison with others.

Normally common people have access to one centralised command which can be utilise by them in any emergency situation, apart form this they can also respond to one who provides the dedicated services like police, fire brigade, ambulance etc. In order to equip common people to handle emergency situations, there is need to provide them training on community level so that when they encounter such situation they can handle it in a better way. And internet can play an important role towards this end, people must be provided with emergency internet access so that they can remain connected with others who can help then during such situations.

As we live in a globalised world which is shrinking day by day because of the advancement in the information and communication technology. Thus, this advancement has to be used during the need of an hour and not only for entertainment. All those agencies which deal in emergency services must have emergency internet access so that they can reach the needy in time. Internet is most effective way to reach out to people and at the same time it is also an essential tool for people. There are various service providers who deal in emergency internet services and due to competition among themselves they offer very cheap prices.

A vigilant individual can not only saves his/her life in abnormal scenarios but also of others. But before you engage yourself in such an act make sure that you are safe than look for your family and your house and then only then you go for the community. Here the role of the government is important, they must erect emergency apparatus at community level so that more human life and property can be saved and this will minimise the monetary loss to the nation?s economy.

To communicate and express is most natural thing for human being. Broadly we can divide communication in two categories verbal and written. There are various medium for communication like television, radio, newspaper, telephone, satellite and internet and these are most frequently used among others.
